Prediction
Green Bay Packers:
60-55-3
Minnesota Vikings:
55-60-3 (win)
The stellar play of Green Bay’s defense in Week 1 allowed Aaron
Rodgers and the offense to have a subpar performance and avoid another week of
inquiries regarding the relationship between the star quarterback and
first-year coach Matt LA Fleur. Rodgers completed 18 of 30 passes for 203 yards
and a touchdown. Rodgers had little protection, enduring five sacks. Even with
little time to throw the ball, Rodgers spread the ball around with seven
different players having at least one reception.
The free-agent upgrades on defense– Za’Darius Smith and Preston
Smith — injected Green Bay with the speed that had been missing in recent seasons.
It helped them contain Tarik Cohen, who totaled just 49 yards on eight catches and sack Mitch Trubisky five times. Smith had 1.5 of those five sacks.
While Green Bay’s offense definitely has room for improvement,
Minnesota’s run-first approach yielded huge dividends against Atlanta. Dalvin
Cook ran for 111 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 21 carries, as Minnesota
rushed the ball 38 times for 172 yards in a new scheme under offensive
coordinator Kevin Stefan ski. Kirk Cousins threw just 10 passes and completed
eight of them for 98 yards and a touchdown–a 23-yard scoring strike to Adam
Thielen. The Vikings defense carried a shutout into the fourth quarter and
recorded three takeaways — all by safety Anthony Harris.
