Houston Texans Overview:
The Huston Texans are the youngest franchise in the NFL right now. The Huston based team’s home games are played at the NRG stadium, Huston, Texas. The Texans first appeared in the early 2000s but found their footing in the sport in 2011 by winning their first division championship and the first playoff berth. The team went on to win five more AFC South Championships.
The team was first founded by Bob McNair in 1997. But since his death in 2018 the majority shares of the team club went to his widow Janice McNair. Back in 2000 in a ‘name the team’ contest, The Texans were selected. Bob McNair believed that it embodied the pride, strength, independence and achievements people of Houston.
The Huston Texans joined the 83rd NFL league in 2002. They won their opening game against the Dallas Cowboys and became the first team to win an opening game since 1961. Over the next decade, the Texans struggled to qualify for any championship title. But after a few tweaks in the rooster, the Texans improved significantly and won their first AFC title in 2012 with a 10-6 lead.
In 2014 former Penn State coach Bill O’Brain was brought on board as the new head coach. The next year, controversy regarding Quarterback Ryan Mallett put the team’s position in jeopardy. But the Texans managed to win the AFC South divisional championship with a 9-7 lead. But were knocked out of their shot at the SuperBowl by the Kansas City Chiefs in a wild card round with 30-0 score.
The franchise went on to win the 2016 AFC South Championship with quarterback Tom Savage who led a comeback effort for the title. After Savage was diagnosed with a concoction, the Texans took a blow to their morale and were knocked out of the playoffs. Even though they have won six divisional titles the franchise is yet to taste a victory in the big leagues.
Kansas City Chiefs Overview:
Reigning Super Bowl Champions, the Kansas City Chiefs are one of the oldest franchises in NFL history. The franchise was founded by Lamar Hunt as Dallas Texans. But they assumed the current name when the moved from Kansas City, Missouri. The Chiefs play their home games out of the Arrowhead Stadium.
The Chiefs have the second largest and one of the most loyal fanbases in the NFL next to the Washington Redskins. A study done by Bizjournals in 2006 showed that the Chiefs averaged 77,300 fans per game from 1996 to 2006. Their home base ‘The Arrowhead Stadium’ is recognized by the Guinness World Records as the loudest outdoor stadium in the world.
The Chiefs have won the AFL championships in 1968,1966 & 1969. They won their very first Super Bowl trophy in 1969. But faced a steep downhill run afterward. They appeared in many playoffs since then but failed to produce any viable results.
The franchise replaced head Coach Romeo Crennel with Andy Reid in 2012. With the auspicious results under the guidance of the new coach, The Chiefs started to regain their former glory. In 2018 starring Quarterback Patrick Mahomes was brought on board began his first year with the franchise.
This would prove to be the change Kansas needed to turn things in their favor. In 2019 The Chiefs defeated the Tennessee Titans to mark their first SuperBowl appearance in fifty years. In Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, the Chiefs defeated the NFC’s top seed, the San Francisco 49ers in a 24-20 lead. Patrik Mahomes was awarded the MVP of the game.
